FFwD - Marie-Hélène's Apple Cake

It's Friday already.  This sounded like a quick and easy recipe to attempt at the end of a busy week.  Who knew it would take me over 1/2 an hour to peel four apples!  The rest came together without a problem.  Thanks to http://marymaryculinary.blogspot.com/ for her suggestion to brown the butter.  I could not stop sniffing the stuff!  I bought a 9 inch springform pan for this as that was all I could find but as soon as I had the batter poured in I could tell that wasn't going to work, not enough to fill it all, so I switched to a regular 8 inch pan.  Better...but...

...how to get it out of the pan!?  I did my best.  I was impatient and did not let this cool all the way.  My first bite I thought ok, a little too much of a rum taste but after letting it cool properly I did enjoy it.

Happy Halloween everyone!  I've got a bat girl costume to put together tomorrow, should prove to be interesting!

  1. So glad you've joined! I liked the browned butter version of this cake, and you're right--it does smell good. There's a brown butter pound cake you can find on Epicurious that's really good too.
I see you did last week's too--I couldn't face all the potatoes and meat. I thought D would love it--no weird fruit in site. Bet he didn't eat this apple cake.
Another week has got away from us. i worked 3.5 days this week, and marking all weekend. Next week? I could use a drink.

  2. Im so glad it turned out better after the second try. I left the rum out so I didn't get to experience the rummy flavor! I hope your bat girl costume turns out good! I wore a pink Everlast boxing outfit to my Zumba class this morning!

  4. OK, you have to explain why it took so long to peel the apples.

  5. Maybe you were a little too eager!

to get it out of the pan!
I found you at Mary Mary's site and any friend of hers I had to check out. I love her site! I can see you are already practising for her next visit!

  6. LOL if you had ever seen me peel potatoes you would understand why it took me so long. Just really bad at it. I peeled the first one whole and then cut it up and then decided it might be easier to cut it in quarters first then peel...not such a good idea, almost lost a finger. Thank goodness my little one has never demanded his apples peeled.
